Charging Infrastructure Development Concept for the Electrification of Intensively Used Urban Fleets in Prague

Year

2026

Client

Transport Department of the Prague City Hall.

The aim of the project was to map the number of intensively used vehicles in key urban fleet segments within the City of Prague and to model scenarios for their future electrification. At the same time, we assessed whether the planned development of public, commercial and non-public charging infrastructure by 2030 and 2035 will be sufficient to meet the expected needs of these fleets. The output is intended to serve as a practical and accessible basis for decision-making on urban policies, particularly those supporting the transition of high-mileage fleets to zero-emission operation.

⚪︎ Mapping of intensively used urban fleets in Prague – an overview of key segments, including taxi / ride-hailing, delivery and courier services, e-commerce delivery, B2B supply logistics, and municipal or service fleets.
⚪︎ Analysis of current and planned charging infrastructure – assessment of existing public charging infrastructure, municipal projects implemented by THMP/TSK, and planned private-sector charging projects up to 2030 and 2035.
⚪︎ Modelling of fleet electrification scenarios – projections of BEV uptake in the analysed segments, including estimated electricity demand and the expected split between public fast charging, parking-based charging, depot charging and home charging.
⚪︎ Primary research among fleet operators and international benchmarking – interviews and questionnaire-based research among logistics companies, taxi and ride-hailing operators, fleet operators and municipal organisations, complemented by examples of proven measures from European cities.
⚪︎ Recommendations for Prague – proposed measures through which the city can support the transition of high-mileage fleets to zero-emission operation, particularly in charging infrastructure, access and parking rules, taxi regulation and municipal procurement.
