A feasibility study on the use of batteries at the local distribution network (LDN) of Mondi Štětí

The aim of the project was to consider a possible investment in a large battery which would support the existing generation technologies and as a unit be capable of providing ancillary services. The contents in brief:

 Identification of the possibilities and limitations of the existing LDN

Interpretation of the existing and anticipated regulation

Proposal of the battery size to increase the flexibility of the current energy system 

Simulation of the system operation

Investment plan, sensitivity analysis

The LDS energy system at the Mondi complex is undergoing significant modernisation, with investment running into the hundreds of millions of euros. Including a battery energy storage is a natural thing to consider. We hope that our contribution will help Mondi with this decision.
